Steven Douglas Symms (1938-) is a former Republican politician and U.S. Senator from Idaho.
Symms was born in Nampa, Idaho, in 1938, and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1960, serving in the Marines from 1960 to 1963. He worked as a private pilot, fruit rancher, and newpaper editor before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1972. He served as a Representative for eight years until he was elected to the Senate in 1980. He was re-elected in 1986 and stepped down after his second term.
