Superman/Batman

Superman/Batman is an ongoing monthly title starring Superman and Batman currently published by DC Comics and written by Jeph Loeb. Each story arc features a different art team.

The first arc (art by Ed McGuiness and Dexter Vines ) had President Lex Luthor declaring Superman and Batman enemies of the state. Subsequent arcs have depicted the return/reintroduction of Supergirl (art by Michael Turner) and an alternate timeline in which Superman and Batman are made rulers of the United States of America (art by Carlos Pacheco ).

The series is reminiscent of World's Finest, an earlier DC title in which Superman and Batman regularly joined forces. However, this title capitalizes on the new dynamic between Superman and Batman introduced by John Byrne in his Man of Steel relaunch. Pre-Crisis, the two iconic characters were depicted as the best of friends, but in the post-Crisis continuity, they merely coexist; each of them seems to accept the other's presence while strongly disagreeing with the other's philosophy. Throughout the series, Loeb's recurrent use of captions to present the characters' diametrically-opposed personalities clearly illustrates their contrasting points of view.
