Sydneyite

Sydneyite, or Sydneysider, is the term used to refer to residents of Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, Australia. The words are used in the same manner as New Yorker for residents of New York City.

The terms are sometimes used in the sense of 'city slicker' to imply a city dweller's ignorance, disinterest or ineptitude with respect to rural matters.

Sydneyite is found in reference materials and is often the preferred term of older residents; its use may be a function of age and class. Sydneysider is the current media term and so enjoys widespread popular use.
