Syed Hamid Albar

Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar (born January 15 1944 in Kampong Malayu Air Hitam, Penang, Malaysia) is a politician from Malaysia. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation, the main political party in that country. He is currently the foreign minister of Malaysia.

Hamid Albar was active in the Organisation from his student days, where he set up a club for Malaysian expatriates and students in London. He became a member of the Organisation's Supreme Council in 1986, and soon joined the cabinet, as a minister in the oil department and then as minister of law. In 1995 he became defense minister until January 1999, when he became foreign minister.
