Coalition of the Left, of Movements and Ecology

(Redirected from Synaspismos)

The Coalition of the Left, of Movements and Ecology (Shorter: Coalition, Greek: Synaspismos, Συνασπισμός) is a Greek political party of the radical left. Its president is Alekos Alavanos, who succeeded the lawyer Nikos Konstantopoulos.

The current party was founded in 1992 after the Communist Party of Greece withdrew from an earlier project, also called Synaspismos (Coalition of the Left and Progress).

The party has members in the national and European Parliament. Since the withdrawal of the Communist Party, the Coalition resides in the fourth place in the Parliament, not achieving entry in 1996. In the European Parliament they sit in the European United Left - Nordic Green Left group. Synaspismos is also a founding member of the European Left party.

Synaspismos says it is democratic socialist, green, feminist and anti-militaristic.

The full name of the party is Coalition of the Left, of Movements and Ecology (Greek: Συνασπισμός της Αριστεράς, των Κινημάτων, και της Οικολογίας).
