Tao-Klarjeti

Tao-Klarjeti was a Georgian Kingdom (now territory of Turkey). In the 2nd-3rd millenniums BC territory of Tao-Klarjeti was a part of the oldest Georgian Kingdom of Diaokhi. In 619-779 the Eristavs (Dukes) of the Principality of Klarjeti were representatives of a Georgian Bagrationi family. In the 8th-9th centuries AD, southern borders of Georgia extended to the river Araks. In 809 founder of the Bagrationi's Royal dynasty Ashot I the Great (r. in 809-826) founded a Kingdom of Tao-Klarjeti. during the rule of Bagrat I Kurapalate (826-876), David I Kurapalate (876-881) and Adarnase II (881-888) Tao-Klarjeti was a large and powerful kingdom, whose borders reached Lake Van and the town of Erzink (Erzincan). In 888 Adarnase II founded a "Kingdom of Georgians" (Kartvelta Samepo in Georgian) and before the 978 Tao-Klarjeti was a part of this kingdom. In 978-1466 Tao-Klarjeti was a part of the Uunited Georgian Kingdom. The first ruler of this Kingdom was Bagrat III (978-1014).
