The House on the Rock

The House on the Rock is a roadside attraction in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The house itself is built on a column of rock that stands in a field in southwestern Wisconsin. Its strange architecture was conceived by the late Alex Jordan in the 1940s. It is reminiscent of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright in its complexity of decor and style. Jordan sold the house in 1988 to a friend who continued building onto the site with large warehouses filled with knick-knacks and exhibits featuring authentic pieces, reproductions, and especially made examples of everything from Christmas decorations to pipe organs, automated musical apparatuses, and Carousel animals.

The House on the Rock appears in the novel American Gods, by Neil Gaiman.
