The Oxford Student

The Oxford Student is a newspaper produced by and for members of the University of Oxford.

It was established in the 1980s by Oxford University Student Union as an alternative to The Cherwell, the other Oxford University Newspaper.

Known affectionately as the OxStu, the Oxford Student was recently nominated for the Guardian Student Newspaper of the Year Award . It got considerable publicity in summer 2004 when it exposed security flaws in the university's computer network; the journalists responsible were threatened with rustication (suspension from all university property and facilities). After an appeal, the punishment was reduced to a fine.
