The Rainbow

The Rainbow was a 1915 novel by British author D.H. Lawrence. It followed three generations of the Brangwen family, focusing in particular on the sexual dynamics of its characters.

Lawrence's frank treatment of sexual desire and the power plays within relationships as a natural and even spiritual force of life, though perhaps tame by modern standards, caused The Rainbow to be banned and subject to obscenity trials in Britain and the United States during the early 20th century.

The Rainbow was followed by a sequel, Women in Love, in 1920 although they were originally conceived as one novel called The Sisters.
