Theodor Brorsen

Theodor Johan Christian Ambders Brorsen (July 29 1819May 31 1895) was a Danish astronomer.

He discovered a number of comets, including the lost periodic comet 5D/Brorsen and the periodic comet 23P/Brorsen-Metcalf .

He also discovered the gegenschein in 1854, and one NGC object: the globular cluster NGC 6539.

He observed at Altona, Germany and later at Žamberk (at the time called Senftenberg) in the present-day Czech Republic at the observatory in a castle (today a museum) belonging to Baron John Parish (an Englishman, also known as Freiherr von Senftenberg).

The asteroid 3979 Brorsen is named after him.
