Tourism in Bulgaria

Tourism is arguably the most important economic branch in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria is situated at a crossroads that has been linking East and West for millennia. It has been home to many civilisations, including the Thracians, Slavs, Romans, Byzantines, Proto-Bulgarians, and Ottomans.

There are lots of museums as well as historical places and monasteries.

In winter, one can go skiing in Borovetz , Bansko and Pamporovo, and in summer - to resorts at the Black sea such as Sozopol, Nessebur, Golden Sands , Sunny Beach, Albena , St. St. Constantine & Helena and many others. One of the main reasons for "Westerners" to go to Bulgaria, is the costs of having a holiday in Bulgaria is a lot lower then the main holiday resorts like Spain, Italy & Greece for summer resorts and Germany, Austria & Switzerland for winter resorts.

The mountains of Rila, Pirin and the Balkan are attracting climbers from different parts of the world.

Hikers also enjoy being in the mountains of Vitosha, the Rhodopes and many other smaller mountains.

Bicycling is popular in Bulgaria, one of only six countries in the world to annually host official 1200km Randonnees - ultra-marathon bicycle rides patterned after Paris-Brest-Paris.
