Trapeze

For the rock band, see Trapeze (band).

A trapeze is a horizontal cross-bar used by acrobats, gymnasts, and athletes. It is often popularly associated with circuses.

The trapeze is a short bar that is hung by two cords from a support higher up; when these cords and the support are included, the trapeze is shaped like a trapezoid.

In Dinghy sailing, trapezing is a technique in performance sailing which allows the crew to hang their weight outside the boat while attached to lines which lead to the upper mast. This gives greater leverage to counter the heeling of the boat, and it keeps the mast and sails in a more efficient upright attitude.
