Trinitron

Trinitron is Sony's brand name for its line of aperture grille cathode ray tube televisions and computer monitors. Sony held a patent for the design for many years, so "trinitron" is sometimes used as a term for the type of monitor in general, and most other companies making aperture grille monitors also use a brand name ending in "-tron".

Over time, Trinitron computer monitors have also been sold by Apple Computer, Dell, Digital Equipment Corporation, Sun Microsystems, and others. Besides branding, the monitors often appear identical to the Sony equivalents, and some still bear the "Trinitron" logo. Gateway 2000 (now Gateway) sold Trinitron monitors that were rebranded as "Vivitron" monitors with a different bezel design than Sony's.
