United Supermarkets

United Supermarkets is a Lubbock, Texas based supermarket chain founded in Oklahoma in 1916. As of 2004 it operated 46 stores all inside Texas. United Supermarkets of Oklahoma was once part of the chain but is now a separate company.

United Supermarkets occupies a service-based niche in the highly competative retail grocery field. In recent years the company started building Market Street stores in select locations that retain the customer service focus while offering more gourmet selections. In 2003 the company started expanding out of West Texas into the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2004 United cut prices on select items to match those of its closest competitors.

United Supermarkets was a major contributor for the construction of the new United Spirit Arena at Texas Tech University, the home court for both the men's and women's basketball teams. It is also the main sponsor in the upcoming United Texas Tour bicycle race.
