Yorkshire County, Province of New York

Yorkshire County was an original county of the English Province of New York. Like the original Yorkshire in England for which it was named, the county in New York was divided into three ridings: East, West and North. New York's East Riding consisted of Long Island, its West Riding Staten Island and its North Riding modern Westchester County and the Bronx.

On November 1, 1683, when the counties in New York were reorganized, the East Riding was divided into Kings, Queens (including modern Nassau) and Suffolk counties, the West Riding was made Richmond County, and the North Riding was made Westchester County (including the modern Bronx).
