Zuhayr

Zuhayr (full name Zuhayr ibn Abī Sūlmā, born ca. 520-died ca. 609) was one of greatest Arab poets of pre-Islamic period.

Zuhayr belonged to Muzaynah tribe. His father was poet. His elder son, Kab was also poet and read poems to prophet Muhammad. Zuhayr's poem, written when two Bedouin tribes ended a longstanding hostility, is a part of the famous "Mu'allaqat" collection of pre-Islamic Arab poetry. He also wrote satirical poems and poems about the glory of his tribe.
