Art History - Are there any Great Women Artists?

Are there any Great Women Artists?

I love this site!

I know of at least one famous female Impressionist artist, Mary Cassat.
Anyone know of other great female artists? Strangely, most are males - don't know why...

A really great current day artist is Amalia Amaki. She does mixed media stuff. It is really great. She just had an exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. (DC)

Another great female artist is Alice Neel. Her paintings are really interesting...

An earlier example of female artists are Judith Leyster, who painted genre scenes....

Females werent allowed to paint in da past before and during Impressionism... so most female artists in da beginning drew domestic subject matter.
Frances Hodgkins, Berthe Morisot and Jacqueline Fahey are some female artists...

Freda Kahlo is my favourite female artist. Im sure there are many more,...though not as aggresively promoted. Perhaps due to sexist / chauvenistic tendencies in the earlier days...not something one would expect of today's society.
